Unity is Solidarity
Unity
It’s as real as flesh and blood
God did not step back and wait
To abstractly create
A people for himself
But through the covenant
And the incarnation
The Word became
Flesh and blood
Making us one with him
Unity
Every tribe, people and tongue
Make up this
Holy breathtaking communion
Once a people far off
Enemies to his Holy name
Now called and loved
Knit together by his blood
Unity
A mystical space
We share with Christ
But not him alone
It includes
One another
And is known
Through sacrifice
Finding those pushed to the edge
By injustice
By darkness and destruction
Caring for the weakest parts
Speaking up for those ignored
Unity
Is submitting power to one another
Searching for ways to place yourself
Underneath the other
To look for those discarded
Unwanted, not needed
To go find them, bring them in,
Put them at the center
Sacrifice
To serve the weaker brother
And enjoy the unwanted sister
The lowly and abandoned
The peoples put in prison
The skin that is assaulted
Must be brought to
The center of our communion
As we learn to receive
The glorious reunion
That comes as we live
In union learning to practice
Solidarity
